What Membership levels are there on CKO?

Everyone starts as a NEWBIE - this only lasts until you have written 10 posts and then you become a FIELDMOUSE. Once you have been various other animals and reached 100 posts on the Forum you become a BARN CAT and can have your own Album in the Gallery plus a few other privileges.
After that, depending on the number of your posts, you can become our highest rank which is a HOYS Qualifier.

CKO HELPERS - are senior members who staff have voted to promote. They can act as junior moderators and will be voted for depending on the posts they make, their helpfulness to other members and generally being all-round good guys!

Why can I not send messages to my friends?

Because if someone joins us and they aren't a nice person, they might use private messages to bully other members. Some people might also decide to break the rules and send their real name or other details to another member in a private message. Staff decided that it was much safer for you if we disabled the system. You can receive messages from staff but only Staff and certain members can send messages to everyone.

What do I do if I have a problem onsite?

You tell a member of staff straight away. Our job is to help you enjoy your time on CKO and we will do our best to sort out your problem for you. Remember, if we don't know about it, we can't help. If you can't login or get to a page where you can send staff a message you can email admin@countrykidsonline.co.uk - remembering to say your Username.

Can I tell my friends my real name?

NO! Not your real name, the name of your school, your telephone numbers - NOTHING that will help anyone identify you. There are some lovely people on the internet and there are also some nasty ones. If the nasty ones came on a site and said "Hello. I'm a nasty person" nobody would speak to them - so they pretend to be a nice person. If they don't know who you really are they can do nothing to harm you. That is why, no matter how friendly someone is being, you must always be really careful and never give your details to anyone.

What else can't I do on CKO?

Please avoid posting on the forum with lots of capital letters (it's classed as shouting) or using text-talk.

I've never used a forum before - is it difficult?

First time you post it's best if you just reply on someone else's thread. There are lots of different sections in the Forum - Sports, Animals, Hobbies etc. and you just need to chose the right section if you want to start a new topic. Our members are friendly and if you just ask a question in the Chatterbox, someone will help you.

Why doesn't CKO look like other sites for kids?

Because we were asked to make CKO by two boys who wanted a 'grown-up' site for kids. You'll find that we don't talk down to you, we do use long words, we let you talk about almost any subject that is of interest to you and in return we expect you to help us make CKO a special place to visit.

Why do I need to copy a code before I can post?

This will only happen twice and is so that our software can get to know that you are a real person and not a computer bug. After you have posted twice it will stop showing you the letters and you can just post normally.

What do I do if someone posts something nasty on CKO?

The same as you should do on any site you visit - report it! There's a Report to Moderator link at the side of every post which sends an email to the moderators of the board. Its helpful if you copy the post and send it to us in case the poster deletes it later. Believe us, if anyone is nasty on CKO, staff will come down on them like a ton of bricks!
